In NIGERIA, gunmen murdered 17 farmers in Zamfara. In the DRC, war injuries increased by 30% amid an Ebola outbreak, and the Senate passed a bill allowing for a potential third term for President Tshisekedi.
In LEBANON, Israeli strikes targeted several sectors in the South, killing 75 in total. 3 drones launched from Lebanon hit Israel, prompting threats of retaliation against Beirut. Nabatiye residents found their homes and commercial districts in ruins. Hezbollah repelled Israeli forces near Kfartebnit. An Israeli minister called for the entire country to “burn”. Strikes continued in the south despite a peace agreement between Washington and Tehran. In SYRIA, Israel announced it will maintain military forces in security zones for an unlimited period. The government warned against revenge attacks on Al-Assad supporters, while Damascus protesters attacked Alawite districts. In PALESTINE, Israeli strikes killed six people in Gaza despite the ceasefire. President Mahmoud Abbas scheduled elections for 2027, and peace activists launched a joint Jewish-Arab political party. Israel seized control of a Hebron religious site, while settlers burned mosques in the West Bank. Israel suspended contact with the EU’s diplomacy chief over apartheid remarks. Regarding the IRAN-GULF-US-ISRAEL war, authorities executed protest leaders for their participation in January demonstrations. The US revealed the use of AI to conduct military strikes against Iran. In Bahrain, the government stripped 69 citizens of their nationality and forced them into exile, because of their support for Iran. In AFGHANISTAN, the air force struck ISIS bases in Pakistan.
In EASTERN EUROPE, Russian strikes killed 17 people in total, including rescuers and a child, and damaged the Kyiv cathedral. Ukraine launched its largest drone attack on Moscow, hitting significant oil refineries. 6 civilians, including a child, were killed in Ukrainian attacks. Protesters in Kyiv demanded the release of women detained and tortured by Russia. The EU launched membership negotiations with Ukraine.
In MYANMAR, an American author was arrested, while military air strikes killed 7 civilians. China advocated for the country’s full international reintegration.
Regarding international justice and relations, in KOSOVO, 5 Serbs were arrested for the 1999 Recak massacre. In FINLAND, parliament voted to lift the ban on nuclear weapons to align with NATO. In the NETHERLANDS, a Rwandan genocide suspect pleaded not guilty. In VENEZUELA, the IACHR heard testimony regarding the 2018 killing of a dissident and in COLOMBIA, former President Uribe went under investigation for paramilitary massacres. In TAIWAN, Beijing vowed retaliation over a new intelligence website, while the President sought an arms deal. In AUSTRALIA, authorities are investigating the ill-treatment of activists by Israeli forces and the ECHR condemned AZERBAIJAN for torture of a POW.

SUDAN
UN HUMANITARIAN AID THREATENED AT CHAD-SUDAN BORDER
On June 14, 2026, Chadian returnees fleeing the war in Sudan arrived at the Adré border crossing where crucial support from UN agencies could stop due to lack of funding. IOM Deputy Director visited the Assoungha department for 3 days to meet these populations. Secretary General of the Assoungha department Mahamat Issa Abakar stated that over 5,000 Chadians were preparing to return and noted that resources are lacking for them. In the Tongori camp, which holds over 13,000 people, residents reported that food has not been distributed for 6 months. IOM Deputy Director warned that the response plan is only 19% funded and aid could cease after October 2026.
OVER 1,000 CIVILIANS KILLED BY DRONES
On June 15, 2026, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights reported that drone strikes in Sudan killed more than 1,000 civilians between January and May 2026. UN High Commissioner Volker Türk documented these deaths during the opening of a Human Rights Council session in Geneva. He noted that the conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (FSR) has intensified, with widespread reports of rape and sexual violence. Fighting has specifically increased in the Kordofan region and Blue Nile State.
UN AND US WARNS OF IMMINENT RSF OFFENSIVE ON EL-OBEID
On June 18, 2026, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the US warned of an imminent offensive by Rapid Support Forces in the city of El-Obeid in Kordofan. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk expressed alarm over the concentration of troops and the risk of atrocities similar to those in El-Fasher and the Zamzam camp, also perpetrated by the RSF. 500,000 civilians are at risk of large scale atrocities due to intensified drone strikes, artillery shelling and infantry attacks.
UGANDA
ARMY CHIEF ABDUCTS OPPOSITION LAWYER IN KAMPALA
On June 15, 2026, Ugandan soldiers abducted lawyer and opponent Erias Lukwago from his home in Kampala after he initiated legal action against Army Chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Army Chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of President Yoweri Museveni, bragged on X about capturing Erias Lukwago and taking him to his basement. Erias Lukwago, who is the lawyer for opponent Kizza Besigye, had filed a complaint against Army Chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the 2024 kidnapping of his client in Kenya. On June 17, 2026, Lukwago appeared before a Makindye court in Kampala and was charged with treason related offence. Erias Lukwago’s lawyer Medard Sseggona stated that his client was subjected to torture. The prosecution joined his case to that of Kizza Besigye, also accused of being involved in a plot to overthrow the government of President Yoweri Museveni.
ETHIOPIA-ERITHREA
FORCED MILITARY RECRUITMENT IN TIGRAY
On June 19, 2026, witnesses and NGOs reported a forced military recruitment campaign carried out by Tigrayan authorities as tensions rise with the federal government. A witness described being rounded up at a funeral and taken to a training camp while another was arrested in his shop. Human Rights First-Ethiopia NGO documented forced recruitment across most zones of Tigray through roadblocks and arrests. TPLF Vice President Amanuel Assefa claimed recruitment is based on consent but admitted exceptional provisions for mandatory conscription. Young men are fleeing to Addis-Abeba to escape the TPLF forces. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has accused the TPLF of plotting with Eritrea while federal troops mass at the border.
UN EXPERT ACCUSES ERITREAN AUTHORITIES OF CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY
On June 19, 2026, a UN expert reported systematic and widespread human rights violations in Eritrea, including cases of torture and enforced disappearances. UN Special Rapporteur on Eritrea Mohamed Abdelsalam Babiker stated there is no sign of improvement and that crimes against humanity continue with impunity. He noted that many detainees remain in secret prisons for decades without trial, including two prominent Muslim leaders missing since July 2025. Over 30 NGOs including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch called for the extension of the mandate of UN Special Rapporteur on Eritrea Mohamed Abdelsalam Babiker. The UN recently called for the release of 10,000 arbitrary detainees.
JOURNALIST DETAINED WITHOUT CHARGE IN ETHIOPIA
On June 20, 2026, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) urged Ethiopian authorities to release journalist Salsawit Baynesagn who has been held without charge since early June. CPJ Africa Director Angela Quintal stated the detention is a grave violation and a warning to other journalists. According to her family, Salsawit Baynesagn was arrested on June 8 at her home in Addis-Abeba after publishing videos criticizing the government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed regarding violence in Oromia. In early June, gunmen killed at least 11 civilians in Oromia. The government has increased repression of independent media.
NIGER
AL-QAIDA BRANCH CLAIMS DEADLY ATTACK ON NIAMEY AIRPORT
On June 18, 2026, at least 11 soldiers and 2 civilians were killed in a suicide attack on the Niamey airport claimed by the JNIM jihadist group. The Niger Ministry of Defense reported that 22 attackers were killed and 20 suspects arrested after they attempted to enter the terminal. Niger Junta leader Abdourahamane Tiani previously mentioned a security breach during a similar attack in January. The Ministry of Defense accused the attackers of being mercenaries acting for France, which denied any involvment. Flight traffic was diverted as security forces searched surrounding neighborhoods for remaining assailants.
NIGERIA
17 FARMERS MURDERED BY GUNMEN IN ZAMFARA
On June 12, 2026, gunmen on motorcycles killed 17 farmers in the Goron Namaye village in Zamfara State. Maradun district political administrator Sanusi Dosara and community leader Abubakar Jarra confirmed that the victims were shot while working in their fields. The attack also left 5 people wounded.
DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
MORE WAR WOUNDED AMID EBOLA OUTBREAK
On June 16, 2026, the ICRC reported that the number of war wounded in eastern DRC has risen by 30 percent since an Ebola outbreak was declared on May 15. ICRC Medical Coordinator in DRC Moussa Badji stated that surgical teams are under constant pressure from weapons injuries despite the health crisis. Most of the 303 wounded patients were recorded in North-Kivu and South-Kivu, particularly in the Hauts-Plateaux region where the M23 group is active. Security sources reported violent clashes near Minembwe and Mikenge involving the Congolese army, M23 and local militias. Explosions from drones account for 18 percent of injuries treated by the ICRC while ADF massacres continue in Ituri.
DRC SENATE ADOPTS TEXT OPENING WAY FOR TSHISEKEDI THIRD TERM
On June 16, 2026, the Senate adopted a bill on the organization of referendums that could allow President Félix Tshisekedi to seek a third term. The text, already passed by the Assembly where the majority coalition holds power, would allow for constitutional revisions. Opponents denounced the move as a constitutional coup and held a rally in Kinshasa which resulted in clashes with police and pro-government militants. President Félix Tshisekedi, whose current term ends in 2028, stated he would accept a third term.
LEBANON
ISRAELI AIR STRIKES TARGET THE SOUTH
On June 13, 2026, Israeli air strikes hit several sectors in South Lebanon following evacuation orders issued by the Israeli army for 24 localities. The bombardment targeted areas near Nabatiye including Rihan, Sujud, Kfar Remman and Kfartebnit. The Lebanese official news agency ANI reported fire in Nabatiye while Hezbollah claimed drone attacks against Israeli military vehicles and soldiers near Majdal Zoun and Kfartebnit.
3 DRONES FROM LEBANON HIT ISRAEL
On June 14, 2026, the Israeli military announced that 3 drones launched from Lebanon impacted Israeli territory near the border without causing victims. Following these incidents, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called for immediate retaliatory strikes against Beirut. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Israel would not hesitate to target the southern suburbs of Beirut in response to Hezbollah fire, a position he claimed is supported by Washington.
3 KILLED IN ISRAELI STRIKE ON SOUTHERN BEIRUT
On June 14, 2026, an Israeli air strike on the Ghobeiry neighborhood in Beirut killed 3 people including 2 women and injured 16 others. The Israeli military stated it hit a Hezbollah command center in response to projectiles fired toward northern Israel. US President Donald Trump criticized the timing of the attack, stating it should not have occurred so close to a peace deal with Iran. In Tehran, General Mohammad-Jafar Assadi of the Iranian joint command warned that the crime would not go unpunished.

NABATIYE RESIDENTS FIND HOMES AND BUSINESSES IN RUINS
On June 15, 2026, residents of Nabatiye returned to their city following a US-Iran agreement, and found extensive destruction of houses and commercial districts. The traditional covered souk and numerous residential buildings were destroyed by Israeli bombing that intensified the previous week. Residents observed the debris of their home as the Lebanese army established checkpoints to guide returning civilians.
HEZBOLLAH REPELS ISRAELI FORCES NEAR KFARTEBNIT
On June 15, 2026, Hezbollah announced it repelled an Israeli force consisting of an excavator and Merkava tanks attempting to advance near Kfartebnit. The group later claimed to have targeted 5 Merkava tanks and 4 other vehicles with rockets. Earlier that day, an Israeli drone killed a driver in the same locality. UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric reported that UNIFIL observed 2 Israeli air strikes.
ISRAELI DRONE STRIKES KILL 4 PEOPLE IN THE SOUTH
On June 16, 2026, Israeli drone strikes targeted 3 vehicles in Mayfadoun and Choukine killing at least 4 people. The Israeli military claimed it identified a suspect vehicle in an operations zone. The Lebanese Health Ministry updated the death toll to 3,826 since the war began on march 2. While violence has decreased since the US-Iran accord announcement, Israeli bombardments have continued to cause casualties.
REPEATED ISRAELI STRIKES IN SOUTH LEBANON DESPITE US-IRAN DEAL
On June 17, 2026, Israel conducted multiple strikes in the regions of Nabatiye and Kfartebnit despite the agreement between Tehran and Washington. Although strikes have decreased in intensity, 5 people have been killed since the deal announcement according to the ANI news agency. The Lebanese army advised displaced residents to delay their return due to the risk of Israeli violations.

On June 18, 2026, Israeli drone strikes killed 3 people in South Lebanon including 2 in a car in Kfar Tebnit and 1 man in Zebdine.
HEZBOLLAH DESTROYS 3 ISRAELI TANKS
On June 19, 2026, Hezbollah announced the destruction of 3 Israeli Merkava tanks with missiles during clashes near Arnoun and Kfar Tebnit. The group claimed it forced the Israeli unit to retreat and use helicopters to evacuate casualties. UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric reported 143 projectiles were observed on Thursday with 119 attributed to Israeli forces. The Israeli army published a map of its 10 km deep security space inside Lebanon and indicated it would continue operations there.
47 LEBANESE KILLED IN 1 NIGHT OF AIR STRIKES, ISRAELI MINISTER CALLS FOR LEBANON TO BURN
On June 19, 2026, intensive Israeli air strikes during the night killed 47 people and wounded at least 33 others in South Lebanon. The bombardment hit 10 localities near Nabatiye including Harouf where 8 deaths were recorded. The military statement claimed that dozens of Hezbollah members were eliminated. Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir declared that all of Lebanon must burn following the death of 4 Israeli soldiers. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich echoed this by calling to open the gates of hell. Negotiations in Switzerland were postponed.
16 KILLED IN NABATIYE DESPITE CEASEFIRE ANNOUNCEMENT
On June 20, 2026, Israeli strikes on South Lebanon killed 16 people in the Nabatiye region despite a ceasefire announced the previous day. The Lebanese army also reported the death of 1 of its soldiers. Israel claimed the strikes targeted Hezbollah positions in retaliation for projectiles fired at its troops. Hezbollah leader Hassan Fadlallah stated the movement had the right to face the occupant force.

US PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP SUGGESTS SYRIA MANAGE HEZBOLLAH IN LEBANON
On June 16, 2026, US President Donald Trump recommended that Israel allow Syria to handle the Hezbollah group in Lebanon to reduce military casualties. The US President praised Syrian leader Ahmad al-Chareh for his effective stance against the armed group. This proposal followed increased tensions between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after Israeli strikes in Beirut delayed a peace deal with Iran. While Syrian leader Ahmad al-Chareh has expressed reluctance to intervene, the US President insisted that Syria is capable of addressing the threat without destroying entire buildings. The suggestion follows the historical precedent of former leader Hafez al-Assad who intervened in the Lebanese civil war in 1976 and maintained a military presence. On the same day, Syria signed a contract with American energy company ConocoPhillips and Novaterra Energy to modernize its gas infrastructure. Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) Director General Youssef Qablawi described the agreement as the most important contract since the fall of Al-Assad.
DAMASCUS PROTESTERS ATTACK ALAWITE DISTRICTS
On June 17, 2026, dozens of Syrians demonstrated in Damascus neighborhoods including Mazzé 86 and Ach al-Warwar to demand that supporters of fallen President Bachar al-Assad be held accountable. Protesters attacked businesses and vehicles while shouting sectarian slogans in these predominantly Alawite districts. Former anti-Assad fighters claimed that those who suffered under the previous regime deserve the houses and public service positions currently held by Assad supporters. Interior Ministry spokesperson Noureddine al-Baba reiterated that the transition government is determined to prosecute crimes through the legal system.
PALESTINE
6 KILLED BY ISRAELI STRIKES IN GAZA
On June 14, 2026, Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip killed at least 6 people despite the ceasefire. An Israeli air strike on the Jabalia refugee camp in the north killed 4 people and injured several others while an Israeli military spokesperson claimed the operation targeted terrorists. In separate incidents near Khan Younès, 2 additional individuals were killed by Israeli fire according to the Civil Defense.
MAHMOUD ABBAS ANNOUNCES ELECTIONS FOR 2027
On June 15, 2026, Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas announced that a presidential election will be held in early 2027. The 90-year-old leader also scheduled legislative elections for November and expressed total readiness for the Palestinian National Council (PNC) vote. These would be the first major elections since 2006 when Hamas defeated the Fatah formerly led by Yasser Arafat.
PACIFIST ACTIVISTS LAUNCH JOINT JEWISH AND ARAB POLITICAL PARTY
On June 16, 2026, Israeli peace activists launched a new political party named “A Place for All of Us” in Nazareth. The formation is based on a partnership between Jewish and Arab Israelis. Co-directors of the Standing Together movement Rula Daoud and Alon-Lee Green lead the party which focuses on social justice, equality and the promotion of an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement. Arab Israelis represent 21% of the Israeli population and frequently report discrimination by the Jewish majority.
ISRAEL TRANSFERS CONTROL OF HEBRON RELIGIOUS SITE
On June 16, 2026, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich declared the removal of Palestinian authority over the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron. The minister transferred control of the site to Israel while participating in the inauguration of a new colony. This site is also known to Muslims as the Ibrahimi Mosque. This decision cancels the 1997 Hebron protocol that granted management to Palestinians. Yonatan Mizrahi of the Peace Now organization confirmed the decision was made during a planning council meeting. The office of Palestinian President condemned the move as a violation of international law while Hebron municipality described it as an attempt to control the city’s historic heart.
ISRAELI SETTLERS SET FIRE TO 2 MOSQUES
On June 17, 2026, groups of Israeli settlers set fire to 2 mosques in the West Bank according to local Palestinian officials. In Jiljiliya, settlers set fire to a washroom and left Hebrew inscriptions on walls including “Vengeance”. In al-Mazraa al-Noubani, Mayor Saad Dagher stated settlers threw a Molotov cocktail at the al-Farouk Omar ibn al-Khattab mosque. The Israeli army condemned the incidents and launched an investigation. Hamas denounced the settler violence as organized terrorism and called for increased resistance. UN figures show that settler attacks in the occupied territories have reached a record average of 6 per day.
ISRAEL BREAKS CONTACTS WITH EU DIPLOMATIC CHIEF OVER APARTHEID REMARK
On June 18, 2026, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced the suspension of contacts with European Union diplomacy chief Kaja Kallas. The decision follows reports that Kaja Kallas compared Israel to the former South African apartheid regime during a private meeting in Mexico. 265 CHILDREN KILLED IN GAZA SINCE THE SO-CALLED CEASEFIRE
On June 19, 2026, Unicef spokesperson James Elder described the Gaza ceasefire as a deadly illusion for children. The organization reported that 265 Palestinian children have been killed since October 2025 with almost all fatalities attributed to Israeli strikes, bombs or drones. James Elder highlighted that restrictions on essential medicines are increasing risks of infection and amputation for the 400 injured children. James Elder criticized a lack of political will to end the child massacres and urged the international community to stop normalizing these mortality levels.
NORWAY BANS TRADE WITH ILLEGAL ISRAELI COLONIES
On June 19, 2026, the Norwegian government announced it will ban trade with Israeli colonies established in Palestinian territories. Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stated that Norwegian companies must not contribute to illegal settlements which undermine a two-State solution. The ban covers goods produced in colonies, real estate purchases and the provision of construction or renovation services. The project preserves legitimate Palestinian activities and humanitarian aid. Norway recognized the State of Palestine in 2024. France and Sweden have requested trade restrictions while Ireland seeks a full ban on products from occupied territories.

PEACE AGREEMENT: ISRAELIS LABEL US-IRAN ACCORD AS CATASTROPHIC
On June 15, 2026, Israeli officials and analysts described the agreement between Washington and Tehran as a major victory for Iran and a political disaster for Israel. Former military intelligence officer Danny Citrinowicz described the deal as a security catastrophe that strengthens the Iranian regime. 2 PROTEST LEADERS EXECUTED
On June 16, 2026, the Iranian judiciary announced the execution of Javad Zamani and Abolfazl Saedi for their participation in the January protests. The Mizan judiciary agency identified the 2 men as armed leaders of a movement that began in late December 2025 and peaked on January. Executions have increased since the start of the war in late February. The United Nations reported that at least 40 men have been executed in 2026 including 18 protesters.
US PENTAGON REVEALS USE OF IA IN IRAN STRIKES
